Maui has some of the best beaches in the world and can be enjoyed safely by observing a few commonsense rules. To have the safest beach experience, swim at beaches with lifeguards and ask about ocean and beach conditions. Read and observe posted warning signs. If in doubt, stay out!

NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON THE OCEAN!

WAVES

Small, calm waves could soon be followed by stronger, larger waves often causing a powerful shore break. This is the condition when waves break directly on the shore. Unpredictable shore breaks have caused many serious neck and spinal injuries to both experienced and inexperienced bodysurfers and swimmers. Don’t dive into unknown water or into shallow breaking waves. Waves can break on or against the seawall and beach access points. This condition can happen suddenly and unexpectedly, even when the water appears calm, or the area appears dry. Be cautious when walking along the seawall, shoreline and on beach access points. Always keep an eye on the ocean. You could unexpectedly be swept away or off your feet by a large or strong wave. Watch your children carefully. Don’t let them swim or boogie board at the water’s edge during big surf. Hold on to the younger ones.

CURRENTS

Strong currents frequently accompany high surf and rapid tide changes and can be recognized as a turbulent channel of water between areas where waves are breaking. When caught in a strong current – don’t panic! Swim diagonally to the current, not against it. If you are unable to swim out of a strong current, wave your hands overhead or scream to signal for help.

REEF & CORAL

The reef is alive and treated with respect. Watch out for sharp coral reef formations close to the shoreline. Use caution when swimming or snorkeling in shallow waters. Do not stand on the reef. Sea Urchins live in the reef and have sharp spines. If you brush against or step on one, it will be painful. Some residents and guests have found that using booties makes swimming safe and more enjoyable. Maui’s beach areas are also home to sea life such as man-o-war and jelly fish. Should you be injured, seek minor first aid assistance.

SLIPPERY AND  SHARP SURFACES

Moss and algae may form along the shoreline and on beach access points, causing surfaces to become very slippery. Waves may cause you to fall while standing or walking on slippery rocks, resulting in serious injury. Watch for sharp, rough, and uneven surfaces. Use extreme caution when walking along the shoreline and using access points into the ocean.

SUDDEN DROP OFFS

Beware that beach access points have uneven steps and bottoms drop off abruptly. Beware of ocean ledges and drop offs. Water depth can change abruptly, from low water level to water suddenly over your head. You could drown.

TSUNAMI

Although Tsunami’s are very rare. Hawaii has a warning system in case of an emergency. The sirens are tested on the first Monday of every month at 11:45 AM. If you hear the siren at any other time. Tune into your radio or television for further info.

ENTERING AND SWIMMING IN ANY OCEAN IS

ALWAYS HAZARDOUS UNDER ANY CONDITION AND CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS BODILY INJURY OR EVEN DEATH. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL OR DO DRUGS!

IF IN DOUBT. DO NOT GO OUT!

Upon registration you will receive a parking permit that is to be visibly displayed in your vehicle. Designated parking areas are clearly marked.

A second vehicle may park on the property for an additional $5 per day, subject to change. Security will enforce proper parking.

Help to conserve our island’s energy resources. Turn off A/C and lights when not in use. Conserve water and recycle.

AUDIBLE SOUNDS/QUIET HOURS 10 PM – 7 AM

In consideration of others, please keep volume on your TV, stereos/mobile device speakers, and other noises low and contained to your unit. Use earphones in the pool or lawn area with your stereo or mobile device. Refrain from talking loudly on your lanai and on building walkways adjacent to bedrooms, especially during quiet hours.

We do not permit fireworks at any time or on any occasion.

LOCK YOUR CAR

Do not leave valuables in your car including the trunk, especially when parked at beach parks, shopping malls, and activities. Do not leave information in your bags that could identify where you are staying, such as your room keys or important documents.

LOCK YOUR DOORS
Always lock your doors when leaving the unit, including your lanai glass doors. When you retire for the night, make sure your lanai doors are securely locked. (Some units have secondary locks on the lanai doors. We encourage you to use them as an added safety measure). For those units with safes in the rooms, please use them to store your valuables.
